Summary

Talia Hibbert returns with another charming romantic comedy about a young woman who agrees to fake date her friend after a video of him “rescuing” her from their office building goes viral。。。

Danika Brown knows what she wants: professional success, academic renown, and an occasional roll in the hay to relieve all that career-driven tension。 But romance? Been there, done that, burned the T-shirt。 Romantic partners, whatever their gender, are a distraction at best and a drain at worst。 So Dani asks the universe for the perfect friend-with-benefits—someone who knows the score and knows their way around the bedroom。

When brooding security guard Zafir Ansari rescues Dani from a workplace fire drill gone wrong, it’s an obvious sign: PhD student Dani and ex-rugby player Zaf are destined to sleep together。 But before she can explain that fact, a video of the heroic rescue goes viral。 Now half the internet is shipping #DrRugbae—and Zaf is begging Dani to play along。 Turns out, his sports charity for kids could really use the publicity。 Lying to help children? Who on earth would refuse?

Dani’s plan is simple: fake a relationship in public, seduce Zaf behind the scenes。 The trouble is, grumpy Zaf’s secretly a hopeless romantic—and he’s determined to corrupt Dani’s stone-cold realism。 Before long, he’s tackling her fears into the dirt。 But the former sports star has issues of his own, and the walls around his heart are as thick as his。。。 um, thighs。

Suddenly, the easy lay Dani dreamed of is more complex than her thesis。 Has her wish backfired? Is her focus being tested? Or is the universe just waiting for her to take a hint?

I loved the steamy scenes and the silliness they were able to bring out。

I really appreciate how Talia Hibbert is able to write good romances while still having the leads struggle with their own issues, in this case anxiety and being emotionally distant。 The growth that we see between her characters is really beautiful to watch。I enjoyed this one more than Chloe’s book, I think because I identified with Zaf and tend to fall for emotionally distant people haha 😅 and I love me some thick thighed rugby men。 I don’t think these books are ones I am able to binge though, u I really appreciate how Talia Hibbert is able to write good romances while still having the leads struggle with their own issues, in this case anxiety and being emotionally distant。 The growth that we see between her characters is really beautiful to watch。I enjoyed this one more than Chloe’s book, I think because I identified with Zaf and tend to fall for emotionally distant people haha 😅 and I love me some thick thighed rugby men。 I don’t think these books are ones I am able to binge though, unlike so many other romance series I’ve read in the past couple months, for a couple of reasons。 The first being that Talia Hibberts books focus so much on the leads overcoming their issues that it takes a bit out of me if I’m being honest。 I like it but I can’t handle reading romances like that back to back。 And (this next one is definitely a me issue) I sometimes get a little annoyed with the sisters for really stupid reasons on my part (like them calling each other darling, I don’t know why it bothers me, maybe because my sister and I would literally never call each other that and I don’t think of it as a sisterly thing IDK) so I need to take a break from the sisters between their books。Regardless, I do thoroughly enjoy the books and I will be reading Eve’s book eventually 。。。more

So I loved the first of the Brown sisters novels but I was HEAD OVER HEELS for this addition to the series。 Talia Hibbert is just an expert at writing the most engaging and beautiful and sweet and sexy stories that just draw you in。Danika and Zafir are just absolutely perfect characters that you seem to fall in love with instantaneously。 A man who runs a workshop about toxic masculinity and men’s mental health WHILST also being a huge romance book fan?? Another delightful read from Talia Hibbert that I devoured in just a few days (and would have read faster, if circumstances had allowed)。 While I do prefer "Get a Life, Chloe Brown" more, I think that's partly because I just vibed with those characters more。 Dani and Zaf are still a gorgeous, charming, hilarious couple, and I love that this book centered a black bisexual chubby woman and a Pakistani Muslim man with general anxiety disorder。 The inclusion and diversity never felt forced or like a Another delightful read from Talia Hibbert that I devoured in just a few days (and would have read faster, if circumstances had allowed)。 While I do prefer "Get a Life, Chloe Brown" more, I think that's partly because I just vibed with those characters more。 Dani and Zaf are still a gorgeous, charming, hilarious couple, and I love that this book centered a black bisexual chubby woman and a Pakistani Muslim man with general anxiety disorder。 The inclusion and diversity never felt forced or like a tick in the box - it was just part of them being whole, complex characters。 Now to see if I can get my hands on the third book! 。。。more

Absolutely charming。 Stunning character chemistry, the side characters are awesome without stealing the show, a "fake dating" plot, and seeing Dani's development was great。 Watching her go from a "I don't do commitment" person to apologizing to her ex was such growth。 Love Talia Hibbert, and I can't wait to read the last one in this set。 Absolutely charming。 Stunning character chemistry, the side characters are awesome without stealing the show, a "fake dating" plot, and seeing Dani's development was great。 Watching her go from a "I don't do commitment" person to apologizing to her ex was such growth。 Love Talia Hibbert, and I can't wait to read the last one in this set。 。。。more

Having been highly disappointed in Chloe Brown I didn't expect much from Dani。 I am so glad that I stuck with the series because this was a cutesy, smiley, believable, relatable novel。 Having been highly disappointed in Chloe Brown I didn't expect much from Dani。 I am so glad that I stuck with the series because this was a cutesy, smiley, believable, relatable novel。 。。。more

This was a super easy read, which I knew going in because the first in the Brown Sister series (Get a Life, Chloe Brown) was also。 I think Hibbert writes very fluidly and accessibly。 You could probably finish this in one sitting if you had the time。I greatly enjoyed the inclusion of a Muslim character for a love interest as I find that it's difficult to find sexy Muslim men in "mainstream" romance -- that is, romance that isn't written by a Muslim author set in a Muslim community with two Muslim This was a super easy read, which I knew going in because the first in the Brown Sister series (Get a Life, Chloe Brown) was also。 I think Hibbert writes very fluidly and accessibly。 You could probably finish this in one sitting if you had the time。I greatly enjoyed the inclusion of a Muslim character for a love interest as I find that it's difficult to find sexy Muslim men in "mainstream" romance -- that is, romance that isn't written by a Muslim author set in a Muslim community with two Muslim characters as the romantic pairing。 This is a nice blend of mainstream British culture with two equally British characters who aren't white and Christian。 I only wish that Zafir's Muslim-ness was more impactful to the story, but of course that is me putting upon the story to be representative of all Muslims and that's not fair since each Muslim is different in their approach to their religion and customs。I'm still incapable of reading published smutty romance without telling everyone to go to horny jail because my god these two were even hornier than Chloe and Red in the last book。。。 I spent so much of it being 🙈 (metaphorically)。 Look, this doesn't affect my star rating, and I was especially primed for this book since it is a sister sequel to the first one where I was 😳 and there's the whole "fuck buddy" search in the book synopsis, but that doesn't mean I am still used to anything past Regency romance in novels LOLI definitely like this one more than the Chloe Brown one, only because fake-dating/contract-relationships is one of my favourite tropes (my kdrama taste says so)。 I think I will also like Eve Brown's romance because enemies-to-lovers is another of my favourite tropes。 The only major issue I have is the third-act breakup!! I despise this trope, and I am grateful to any book, film, tv show that handles the third-act wildcard without breaking up。 It happened in Chloe Brown's story and now in Dani Brown's。 This one was particularly egregious because the breakup was one chapter in length equaling four or five days (one uni workweek)。 But, yes, yes, it's a romance novel so it has to hit those tropes。。。 Please let Eve Brown and her beau not have a third-act breakup。。。Aside from that, I had a great time reading it! It's a contemporary romance novel so I'm unlikely to give it anymore than 3 stars, but I would definitely recommend it to anyone who does like contemporary romance (as long as they don't mind the kinda explicit sex scenes)。Now for my little soapbox: Here's to praying that there's a mainstream romance novel coming soon with a Sikh male love interest who wears a turban! I feel like they're left out of the romance world a lot, and of course my own invested interest in East and Southeast Asian men。 Also, Indigenous men! I love what Hibbert has done for under-represented characters (for her female characters: bisexual, disabled, fat, Black, etc。), but I think more can be done on the male character side。 Based on the little cartoon on the front cover of Act Your Age, Eve Brown, we're back to a white man。 Nothing against white men, but western society has made white men the sexy and attractive standard for so long that it's high time other men get the spotlight。TW/CW:Anxiety disorder, panic attacks, references to deaths of family members, references to toxic masculinity, references to cheating 。。。more

4。25 starsi really loved dani’s book, from seeing her life as a phd student and how confident she is with herself to seeing zafir and how he deals with his mental health and feelings。 talia does such a good job talking about the struggles and trauma characters go through in these books and with the brown sisters, it blows my mind。 i really loved how they didn’t try to change each other and compromise and learned to work for each other。—“Ah, but of course you did。 Danika fucking Brown。He made her 4。25 starsi really loved dani’s book, from seeing her life as a phd student and how confident she is with herself to seeing zafir and how he deals with his mental health and feelings。 talia does such a good job talking about the struggles and trauma characters go through in these books and with the brown sisters, it blows my mind。 i really loved how they didn’t try to change each other and compromise and learned to work for each other。—“Ah, but of course you did。 Danika fucking Brown。He made her name sound like a blessing。” 。。。more

talia hibbert does it again! this was so so cute, i love the fake dating trope and zaf was so sweet! what made this a 4 vs a 5 (which is what i rated chloe’s book) was just that i related to chloe more than dani, which made me more connected to chloe’s book compared to this one。 but i can totally see how this is many peoples favourite of the 3 and it was still so so good! SO excited for eve’s book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶🌶 Favorite out of the series so far。 The anxiety rep was done so well that I cried many times reading。 Talia writes romance in a way that makes me believe that love is real。 The relationships are healthy with boundaries and open communications。 And I can’t wait to finish the last book in this wonderful series。

6/5 starsOkay can I just say I have now found my new comfort series。 This book was the perfect rom-com。 And I said that about Get a Life, Chloe Brown, the first book in The Brown Sisters series yet somehow the author has done it again and even better。 This book was even better than the first and that's saying a lot because the first book was a 5 out of 5 stars read。 This was definitely one of the cutest freaking books I have ever read and I am not even exaggerating。 I mean how can I when the lov 6/5 starsOkay can I just say I have now found my new comfort series。 This book was the perfect rom-com。 And I said that about Get a Life, Chloe Brown, the first book in The Brown Sisters series yet somehow the author has done it again and even better。 This book was even better than the first and that's saying a lot because the first book was a 5 out of 5 stars read。 This was definitely one of the cutest freaking books I have ever read and I am not even exaggerating。 I mean how can I when the love interest if Zafir FUCKING Ansari。 He's a brooding and slightly intimidating security guard who under all that is the sweetest person even, a romantic who reads and listens to romance novel on the regular。 AKA my typa person。 I have been looking for a character like this ever The Spanish Love Deception, one who just cares about making their love interest happy and putting a smile on their faces。 Did this man melt me into a puddle of mushy goo a million times whilst reading this book? HELL YES! I really liked how this book was slightly a role reversal。 The girl, Danika Brown, was the one who was cynical one about romance and love whereas Zafir was the one who believed in finding true love someday, which he did。 And I think it made the book even more wholesome。 Both of their journeys of overcoming their fears and anxiety was relatable。 The anxiety representation felt personal。 ALSO DID I MENTION THIS WAS A FAKE DATING, FRIENDS TO LOVERS ROMANCE!! It's literally all that I want in a book。 This book made me laugh out loud, swoon like a hopeless romantic, and sob like an emotional bitch and I loved every part of the journey this book took me on。 “Sweetheart, loving you is the easiest thing I’ve ever done。” - Zafir Ansari, perfect book boyfriend and perfectly swoon-worthy 。。。more

Cute book, enjoyable but predictable。 Although I enjoyed it, the trope is a little overplayed for me。 I get annoyed when the main characters don't communicate that they're both obviously developing strong feelings and brush it off as "but its all fake"。 Excited for the next one in the series, I've heard its the best! Alright sooo I’m gonna rate this somewhere between a 3。75 and 4 stars, and obviously I’ve rounded up for the goodreads rating。 I think I would’ve enjoyed this a lot more had I been less busy while reading this book, not in a reading slump, and more in the mood for romance。 The grip and flow of the story is what got me。 I never felt like I was in the story like I was with Chloe Brown。 While reading this I zoned out a lot, I wasn’t as invested in the plot, etc。 I wasn’t itching to read this like I Alright sooo I’m gonna rate this somewhere between a 3。75 and 4 stars, and obviously I’ve rounded up for the goodreads rating。 I think I would’ve enjoyed this a lot more had I been less busy while reading this book, not in a reading slump, and more in the mood for romance。 The grip and flow of the story is what got me。 I never felt like I was in the story like I was with Chloe Brown。 While reading this I zoned out a lot, I wasn’t as invested in the plot, etc。 I wasn’t itching to read this like I was with Chloe Brown, which sucks and it sucks that I’m comparing the two, but what can you do? It took me forever to get into the story and when I did, again, I wasn’t itching to read。 However, that doesn’t mean Hibbert didn’t do an incredible job on the writing。 I know that had I been invested in the story (which is likely due to a lot of outside factors honestly and not even the story itself) this writing would’ve slapped even harder。 I mean Dani and Zaf, but specifically Dani, went through sooooo much growth and character development。 She had a lot to work through and she did, and it wasn’t rushed!! And Hibbert writes her inner turmoil (?) So well。 Also seeing Zaf struggle with and through his anxiety, but growing comfortable with Dani UGH yes。 BUT I still wasn’t entirely sold on Zaf。 I just, I don’t like him very much。 Is he terrible? No。 Is he the best? No。 Is he fine? yeah I guess。 I didn’t like how he talked。 I know you read a lot of romance buddy, but people don’t talk like that in real life。 The dialogue just felt so unnatural。 And in general I just wasn’t sold on his character and personality。 It was just something about him that was just no。 Also why was he described the way he was? I mean it sounded like this man had super strength or something。 Who is he? The Hulk?Anyway, I loved this trope, but the execution and added friends with benefits just wasn’t quite right for me。 I just wasn’t sold like how I normally would be。 Overall this is a good book and it’s cute and also it would be even better if I wasn’t a mess so yeah。 。。。more

Just finished the audiobook。 Graphic, hilarious, and surprisingly touching! This is solely black, nerd-girl fanfic and wish fulfillment and I am here for it and craving a sequel。 It's gonna be hard to stop caring for Zaf and Dani。 I chose this one because it looks like this is the only book in the series that has an interracial couple but features two POC。 Not sure I'll check out the others but this was fun。 (Definitely rated R) Just finished the audiobook。 Graphic, hilarious, and surprisingly touching!
